The award recognizes the most exceptional organization at The University of Toledo over the past year, with selection criteria including goal setting strategies, event success, leadership development of members, collaboration with other organizations, and overall contribution to University and/or Toledo community. There are over 140 organizations at The University of Toledo
Some of the events and activities Alpha Kappa Psi has conducted and participated in over the past year include: current Auditor of State Mary Taylor speaking at the University, “Last Rocket Standing” with over 600 attendees raising money and food for charity, Dance Marathon, Songfest, charity concerts and fundraising, etiquette dinners, intramural sports, speakers from Edward Jones and other local businesses, and even working at the MudHens games.
The Gamma Eta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi also went to Mississippi in September to help rebuild homes that were destroyed from Hurricane Katrina. 29 members made the trip and over $5,000 was raised, which directly helped the effort. This led to them receiving the Parks Outstanding Community Service/Philanthropic Program Award, which is given to the student organization which exhibited the most successful service or philanthropic effort during the past year.
